Learning at McCormick Stevenson in the Monthly CAD Users Group “Lunch and Learn”

At McCormick Stevenson, we proudly continue our tradition of fostering new learning opportunities for professional growth, and our MCCST engineers play a crucial role in upholding this tradition. Zachary White, Principal Engineer, leads a monthly CAD Users Group known as a “Lunch and Learn” event. During these sessions, any of our CAD users at MCCST can join and spend an hour over lunch, delving deeper into the CAD topic of the month. Zac typically selects a topic related to a CAD issue or tool that holds current engineering significance for some of our engineering programs.

For instance, this month’s topic was “CAD Data Management Using PTC Windchill,” chosen by Zac because Windchill is used for our in-house engineering data management at MCCST, as well as by several of our customers. The primary aim of this tutorial was to introduce the team to Windchill—what it is and how it appears, outside of specialized training. The team acquired insights into saving CAD files in Windchill, creating a new workspace, understanding the difference between the “Common Space” and “Workspace,” naming and renaming files, and comprehending “upload” versus “check-in” processes. In summary, the CAD users gained a comprehensive overview of Windchill and are now better equipped with user knowledge for their work activities.

And that’s just one example. Month by month, Zac may cover any CAD topic of interest to the team using our primary CAD tools, ranging from Windchill PLM to Creo Parametric, Solidworks, CeTOL, and more. These sessions are not only informative but also enjoyable! It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn from our Subject Matter Experts.
