Since 2003, Academy Prep Center of Tampa has followed a mission to inspire and empower students to become future community leaders through a rigorous middle school program coupled with ongoing graduate support.
McCormick Stevenson’s Dwight Crawford graduated from Academy Prep in 2009 and was excited to be featured in their recent video highlighting the Academy’s Graduate Support Services: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6Z_g3YbIXY
Graduate Support Services helps Academy Prep students through high school and college as they become leaders who overcome the social pathologies into which so many were born. The objectives are established while students are in our middle school program, and include emphasizing positive life choices, a college-going culture, and the development of life goals while ensuring that students master academic and enrichment courses at the highest levels.
In the video, Dwight attributes the strategic thinking skills he learned playing chess at Academy Prep with his decision to become a mechanical engineer. He goes on to say: “Academy Prep pushes you to be the best that you can be, so now in my day-to-day activities, I’m always pushing to be the best and go even further.”
Dwight continues to be involved with Academy Prep, by attending graduate support events, sponsorship events and graduations. He hopes to volunteer as a study hall monitor in the upcoming school year.
We are glad that Dwight’s path to McCormick Stevenson included attending Academy Prep Center of Tampa. If you would like to learn more about this impressive school, please visit: http://academyprep.org/tampa/
